Created by former members of the Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - guitarist Bill Harkleroad (Zoot Horn Rollo), bassist Mark Boston (Rockette Morton), drummer Art Tripp III (Ed Marimba, Ted Cactus) with the involvement of vocalist Sam Galpin. Together with the vocalist, the new project recorded two memorable albums in 75-76, now released on one compact. Of course, it's not "Captain", if only because Beefheart is a genius. But, from the point of view of teamwork, sound and sensations in general, the style is clearly sustained. Keyboardist John Douglas "Rabbit" Bundrick also helped with the recording of the first album... Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull gave the money for the release of the debut album. Also tests for some tracks were written by John "Drumbo" French (also former from Magic Band)... On the second album drummer George Draggota (George Draggeta) and keyboard player John Thomas (from Captain Beefheart & Magic Band) joined the band. Despite the great experimental blues-country music (and unlike the music of Captain Beefheart) and the professionalism of the musicians, Mallard never had commercial success ...
